Build an Earthen Oven at Cape Cob! (And more)

We are delighted to share that late June’s Introduction to Natural Building workshop was a hit! Thirteen incredible humans joined us at “Camp Cape Cob” for a weekend of muddy, hands-on learning about cob, straw bale, straw-clay, wattle and daub, and natural plasters and paints.

From gorgeous weather and homemade food to beach walks, fireside singing, and stretch circles, we had a truly holistic immersion into natural building with our new friends.

We are so excited to do it again at the end of this month, July 26-27, at our Cob Oven workshop, and there’s still room to join us! This time, the focus of the building experience will be a cob outdoor pizza oven, which is a fun, functional cob project.

Cob oven at Community Rebuilds campus in Moab, which I made judicious use of while working there!

In building an oven, you’ll learn about how to combine clay, straw, and sand to make cob. Through hands-on practice, you’ll learn about its properties and how to build long-lasting cob structures, whether that be an oven, wall, or house. This is also the perfect time to discuss cob’s incredible fire resistance and uses in conjunction with heat. We’ll have plenty of Q&A time to also discuss whatever topics of interest come up. This weekend getaway is perfect for anyone interested in learning about natural building and getting (literally) in touch with nature. You can find details and registration here.

Just steps away is this gorgeous, secluded beach.

In addition, I’ve just added one more date for Clay and Lime Plaster, an afternoon workshop in Medford, MA. Join me on July 19th or August 16th to learn all about traditional clay and lime wall finishes, and apply them to the light straw-clay tiny house! You can find details here.

As always, don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Stay cool!
