Panel Talk With The Last Straw on Thursday

On August 21st, I’ll be on an online panel titled “How To Work For Yourself With Regenerative Building”, hosted by the lovely folks at The Last Straw Magazine. Along with five other young professionals in the field of natural and alternative building, we’ll be answering fun questions like “How did you get here?” and “How do you make money?”

I’m so excited to hear from the other panelists (read more below about them), and I know it’s going to be a great chat. It’s free and open to the public, Thursday 8/21 from 8:30 PM – 9:30 PM ET on Zoom. Register here.

Blurb from The Last Straw:

It’s time for another live online discussion with The Last Straw! This month’s TLS Talks is a panel discussion between six young professionals that are making their own way in architecture, construction, and education, and all working in sustainable ways with natural materials. Get ready to meet:

Arielle and Simon Gonzalez – the husband and wife duo behind Texas Cob Company combine Simon’s third-generation natural building skills with Arielle’s MBA in sustainable design and manufacturing to deliver the cutting edge of natural building.

Emily Wang – a natural builder in the making, based near Boston. As Biolithic Builds, she leads natural building workshops to spark excitement and empowerment for sustainable living. She is formerly a chemical engineer and forever a science communication enthusiast. When not in the mud, she can be found at the library, biking across state lines, and looking at trees.

Ian Svilokos – an architect and founder of PIE, a research-based design and fabrication studio based in Venice, CA. Ian finds inspiration in working with various mediums to help projects find their greatest potential. Whether metal, earth, wood, or plant, his pursuits in design are informed by the unique opportunities each material presents.

Myles Danforth – designer/builder who works with Amanda Fischer to run Healthy Home Artisans , a design/build/renovation firm with the goal of creating systems of alternative ecological construction for the benefit and access of all people. Myles is a licensed contractor in California with over a decade of hands-on experience in alternative building. He has practiced permaculture and alternative building in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, Oregon, and California.

Seth Dunn – the principal and founder of Praxis Architecture and Integrative Design. Seth is a licensed Architect and LEED Accredited Professional specializing in the Integrative Design process and community-driven sustainability. He is an accomplished strategist and facilitator, enculturating data driven ecological and social resilience into architectural projects.
