Everything starts with a foundation, the most timeless way is stone. Join me to build a dry laid stone foundation for July’s cob oven build! This is a free volunteer opportunity on Sunday, July 5th in Lincoln, MA, between 10 AM and 4 PM. No experience required: just a willingness to get rocky! Email me via my contact page to sign up.
Tickets are still available for the July 11-12 Cob Oven workshop at this beautiful location. Lunches are included, and sliding scale pricing is there to make it more inclusive.

For inspiration, check out the cob oven we built last week at the workshop in Keene!

Keene Workshop Recap
Over a weekend, five fabulous and driven folks learned to build an earthen oven from quite literally the ground up. We dug up soil from the foundation, built a sturdy “urbanite” foundation, and used that very soil to mix cob – all natural, construction play-doh. Finally, we used a sculpting mix to adorn the dome with a giant elm leaf – referencing this farm’s previous era as the Elm Research Institute.
I loved how everyone was ready to get down and dirty, and that many came with the intention to build their own cob oven back home! Nothing better than sending folks off feeling confident and excited to make their visions come true.

I’ll be back at Mill Hollow in September for a Clay Plaster Fundamentals and Natural Paints class, during which we’ll put some final coats of colored plaster on the oven (among other things…) and fire it up for some pizzas!
